ARTIST STATEMENT
By using the space of the canvas frame, I create an interior scene reminiscent of “film stills”. The use of a vibrant color palette along with the style of photorealism translates my continuing themes of loneliness, being trapped in one’s psyche, and the female experience through a cinematic lens. I find the materiality of the oil paint and how each color blends seamlessly into one another helps in creating dimension and intrigue within my work. Through intricate detailing, the scene unfolds onto the canvas. The female subject is alone and contemplative. Her own musings are her entertainment. She is seen in the middle of an action, whether it be on the phone, writing something down, or waiting for someone. Each piece tells a solitary or continuing story. My oil paintings are meant to be an immersive experience within the viewer to encourage them to inspect their own internalization about isolation and communication. By capturing the feeling of loneliness, I create these interior scenes that are heavily saturated in color symbolizing a vibrant existence within oneself, along with the feelings of longing and hopefulness that come with wanting to be understood within this world.
